Dubai: Overseas students appearing for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 examinations, which are currently under way, were in a fix about a question on India's northernmost and southernmost international airports in the social science paper.
A map in the question paper showed Nedumbasherry airport close to Thiruvananthapuram whereas the airport is near Kochi, a city north of the Kerala capital.
"About 600,000 students appeared for the social science exam Monday. All knew that it is Thiruvananthapuram (that is the southernmost international airport of India) but students were confused because Nedumbasherry was written below Kerala's capital," Sunil John, father of one of the students, told the Times of Oman newspaper.
"It was misleading because Nedumbasherry is actually near Kochi and the Nedumbasherry airport is known as Kochi International Airport. The map indicated Nedumbasherry as a place near Thiruvananthapuram," he said.
John said that the CBSE's Class 10 geography textbook also had the same error.
"Are these kinds of mistakes and confusion acceptable in exams that decide the future of the children?" he asked.
